Stories from the People of the Longhouse with Perry Ground

November 25, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Join us at the Hornell Community Arts Center to hear one of Perry Ground’s Talking Turtles Stories: Stories from the People of the Longhouse!  Stick around until 11:30 to hear another presentation by Perry that same day, “Re-Thinking Thanksgiving-A Native American Perspective on an American Holiday”!

His presentation will be filled with traditional Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) legends that have been told for hundreds of years. These stories teach about the beliefs, customs, and history of the Haudenosaunee people. Audiences, young and old, will find his presentation captivating, highly entertaining yet very educational!

Perry Ground is a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy. He has been a master storyteller and cultural educator for over 25 years and enjoys working with people of all ages to teach about the history and culture of Native Peoples.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes. Hornell Public Library’s director and staff are very grateful to be a grant recipient of the 2023 NYSC SCR Community Arts Grant, and they are excited to start offering the programs this project supports.
